5 things you must do in Doha

I recently got back from a week long stay in Doha, Qatar and simply cannot stop talking about it. Of course, I did vlog my whole trip but here’s a quick fire top 5 things I would recommend to anyone planning a trip.

It’s worth noting, taxi’s are very affordable so don’t worry about staying close to any of these. Doha is extremely well connected, you’ll easily get to them.

1. Explore the Mina District

This colourful neighbourhood is a must see, filled with pastel-coloured buildings and it’s cobblestoned streets when you can shop, eat and relax. Located on Doha Corniche, you can access Mina by car, taxi or a walk from the Nation Museum Metro Station (Gold Line).

I’d recommend going 30 mins before sunset to explore the streets, take your pictures before finding the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset. It’s also the perfect spot for a post dinner stroll.

2. Learn at the National Museum of Qatar

Designed by Prizker-Prizer-winer Jean Nouvel, the National Museum of Qatar houses 11 galleries, allowing you to learn about the changes the nation has undergone, from archaeological finds, to manuscripts, photographs, jewellery and clothing. Spanning over 430,000 square feet it’s the perfect way to spend a long lay over or day out.

Packed full with videos and tons of interactive areas - it’s perfect for the whole family.

Under 16’s are free, and its QAR50 for adult non residents.

3. Shop ‘til you drop at Souq Waqif

With its winding alleys full of local sellers, whether you’re after spices, perfume, gold or antiques; they are all for offer in Souq Waqif.

Make sure you stop by the camels, learn about pearling and if you’re there for brunch - stop by Shay al Shamoos, for dinner I loved Parisa - a Persian restaurant laden with mirrors and glass lanterns.

4. Eat traditional Qatari food at Belhambar Qatar

Recommended to me by a local Qatari, Belhambar Qatar is a beautiful restaurant located on the Skyline Viewpoint - but don’t think this is one of those “nice view, ok food” spots. The food is delicious, giving you a taste of home cooked Qatari food, with wonderful service too.

I rocked up without a reservation on a weekday and had no wait, but if you’re reading this before you trip - reserve!

5. Spa day at the Mandarin Oriental Doha

My new go to on the first day after a long flight, is a spa day and I couldn’t recommend the facilities at the Mandarin Oriental Doha more. I had their 90 min lymphatic massage, but made use of the ladies only pool, sauna and steam for a few hours before my treatment. The perfect start to any holiday!

Have you booked a trip to Doha or visited before? Let me know if you do visit any of my recommendations here!
